Three moments when a trucking company shops for insurance

Carriers rarely switch agents on a whim. They shop when a policy ends, when it comes up for renewal, or when they are brand new. Trucking Leads watches all three and tells you where each carrier stands.

Pending cancellations

When an insurer cancels, it has to notify FMCSA with a cancellation date, usually 30 days ahead. If the carrier has not replaced the policy by then, FMCSA can revoke its authority to operate. That date comes straight from the filing, so it is exact.

How to find trucking companies whose insurance is cancelling

The window around a cancellation

  1. Notice filed Insurer files the cancellation FMCSA gets a cancellation date, usually about 30 days out.
  2. Before the date The carrier needs new cover The best time to call. The date is exact, so you know how long is left. Call window
  3. Cancellation date Authority is at risk Without a new filing, FMCSA can revoke operating authority.

Based on FMCSA's cancellation and revocation process. Timing varies by carrier.

Renewals coming up

A renewal is the one time a carrier with a working policy actually shops. FMCSA publishes when a policy starts, not when it ends, so every renewal date in your list is an estimate, and it is always labelled that way.

How renewal dates are estimated from FMCSA data

How the renewal estimate works

  1. Policy start Effective date from the filing FMCSA publishes when each liability policy begins.
  2. Plus 12 months Estimated renewal date The next anniversary of the start date. An estimate, not a fact.
  3. 30 to 120 days before Your calling window Carriers coming up on renewal appear in your list. Call window

FMCSA publishes no policy expiration date; comparable services estimate it the same way.

New authorities

A new for-hire carrier cannot haul interstate until its insurer files proof of coverage. Trucking Leads lists recently registered companies and flags the ones that hold an MC number but have no insurance on file yet.

Why days 10 to 21 matter for new-authority leads

A new carrier's first 30 days

  1. Day 0 Registers with FMCSA A DOT number is issued. Nothing to sell yet.
  2. Days 10 to 21 Applies for an MC number Now it needs liability insurance on file before it can haul. Call window
  3. Day 30 Most are already placed After the first month, most new carriers have found a policy.

Timing from FMCSA registrations of new Florida interstate for-hire carriers, about 90% of which apply for an MC number.

Not every cancellation is a lead

Plenty of carriers cancel a policy because they already bought another one, or because their insurer re-filed it under a new policy number. Calling them wastes your morning. Trucking Leads screens those out before they reach your list.

How each cancellation is checked

Where does Trucking Leads get its data?

From public files the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) publishes: carrier registrations, insurance filings, cancellations, authority status and revocations. We monitor them continuously and turn them into a short, ready-to-call list every week.

Which states are covered?

All 50 states and DC. Any carrier registered with FMCSA can appear, and your list is filtered to the states on your plan.

How fresh is the data?

Each weekly list is built from the newest filings available when it is generated. Insurers' filings show up in the FMCSA files a day or two after they are submitted, so a lead can be a few days behind. Cancellation dates are exact, so you can always see how much time is left.

Are renewal dates exact?

No. FMCSA publishes when a policy starts, not when it expires. We estimate the renewal as the next anniversary of the latest policy start date, and we label every renewal date as an estimate. Cancellation dates are different: they come straight from the filing and are exact.

Does every cancellation mean the carrier needs a new policy?

No. Many carriers cancel a policy because they already bought another one, or because their insurer re-filed it. Trucking Leads checks each cancellation against the carrier's other filings and hides the ones that already have a newer policy of the same coverage, so you do not spend calls on carriers that are covered.

If a carrier has no insurance filing, is it uninsured?

Not necessarily. Only interstate for-hire carriers are required to file proof of insurance with FMCSA. Intrastate and private carriers file nothing, so their insurer is unknown. A new carrier that holds an MC number but has no filing yet is a different case: it cannot legally haul until it buys a policy.

Can I call or text the carriers on the list?

Many carrier phone numbers are owner-operators' personal mobile phones, so Do-Not-Call and TCPA rules matter for your outreach. Manual dialing is the safe default, and you are responsible for compliant contact. Trucking Leads provides data, not legal advice.

Is this insurance advice or a quote tool?

No. Trucking Leads is a data product for licensed insurance professionals. It does not recommend coverage or provide quotes.

How do I cancel?

Reply to any list email and ask. Plans are month to month, or yearly at ten times the monthly price.
